The word ‘bitch’ has been used to refer to women worldwide as a result of their ability to succeed. Women instead of being called ‘boss’ are called ‘bossy’ and rather than being called successful, they are being called ‘bitchy’. Most successful women worldwide have been called a bitch at one point or another in their lifetime, and this cuts across most cultural barriers. After all someone said ‘well behaved girls rarely make history.’

I agree with that statement; even Mother Theresa did not follow the status quo. So here is a list of women we all need in our lives and the lessons we can learn from them. Remember, sisterhood is important. Here we go;

The truthful one
This type of female friend is necessary. She often seems abrasive and unkind. But her words are genuine and straight to the point. It is never her intention to bring hurt or shame, but she often wants you to face the harsh realities of your situation. She will tell you if you’ve gained too much weight, if you’re dating the wrong guy (again), if you’re making bad career choices. She sees the truth and tells it as it is. She often has the foresight to avoid bad mistakes and learns from the hindsight of others, she is wise; you will do well to listen to her.

The Faithful one
This is basically a ride or die chick, she is the family you choose when your family turns out to be unreliable. She holds your hand and cries with you. She may not always be around, but you can count on her as an ear to listen when you need one, a shoulder to lean on, and she will stand in the gap and pray for you. This kind of friend props you up when the world wants to put you down, she sees the good in you. She is friend before any Bae gets in the way. She teaches you that it is in giving to others that you are in the best position to receive.

The bright side one
She always sees the rainbow coming after the storm. Her countenance can be annoying, but her heart is in the right place. She knows every quote about tomorrow being another day. She will attempt her hardest to turn you into an optimist; her face is fixed in a smile like ‘little miss sunshine’. She will teach you to see the beauty in the midst of the mess; she will encourage you to have hope. But remember the poem here, do not forget that she probably has her struggles too.

The boss one
She is the person you want to be when you grow up. She often gets called bitch by other wannabes. She is a go-getter, a career woman, she stretches herself and sets high goals. She has her own money, and spends her own money. This boss is entrepreneurial she seizes every opportunity. Carpe Diem is her motto! You need her in your life to remind you that you can achieve great things, if your work hard and set a goal.

The underdog one
She is the one that has been hit hard by life. Do you recall Meredith Grey from Grey’s Anatomy, life was sinking her, but she just kept rising. Regardless of the blows she’s been dealt she somehow grows. This girl is broken, you need to be tender with her, kind and gentle. Do not be too harsh with her, her heart is fragile but it is vast and full as well. She will teach you that life can knock you down, but you need not stay on the ground.

There we have it, the five bitches all women need as friends. What do you think? Did I leave anyone out? Which category do you say you belong to? Which kind of female friend do you think is most important? What do you love most about your female friends and how do they impact your life?

Until next time,
